PAINTING INSPIRATION:
When people picture retiring to a beach house, they typically think of sunshine and paradise. As for artist Kristin Llamas, she has always dreamed of living her last days in an old stilt beach house overlooking a stormy ocean. Llamas depicts this vision through her painting Remnants of Home. However, the concept goes beyond a physical beach home. This ragged wood structure beautifully exhibits its age and wear from years of life it has lived. It has battled and survived the inner and outer elements that homes are exposed to. This home continues to stand tall with honor. It feels no need for new shutters or fresh paint because all things are beautiful in their imperfections. Blueprints of the home’s inner levels are drawn into the background to illustrate the internal walls that hold the moments and memories of a home well-loved.
In this work, Llamas has painted a sinking yellow sofa to provide a space for the viewer to have a seat and feel the salt upon their face. You can almost hear the waves roll in and feel the sand bury your feet. Think about the stories, secrets, and laughter that the breeze carries with it as it blows from our homes, out into the world.
