Description
Lotuses are often viewed as a symbol of purity as they rise from the mud without stains. Since they return to the murky water each evening and open their blooms at the break of day, lotus flowers are also symbols of strength, resilience, and rebirth.
This original painting was inspired by a miscarriage that the artist suffered with her second child. She wanted a way to bring that baby home even though she was never able to bring them to their home, so she created this work titled Lost Lotus. The original painting continues to hang in the artist’s family home but she made prints available to other grieving mothers post-loss.
Llamas’ pain was followed by joy when despite her poor odds of carrying their next child to term, they had a healthy “rainbow baby” girl whom they named Lily.
