Description
Original canvas painting by artist Kristin Llamas.
ARTWORK INSPIRATION:
Inspired by Poe’s 200th year birthday anniversary. A raven lies with poppies in the foreground and faded in the background is a portrait of Edgar Allen Poe. Some of the artist’s favorite phrases and quotes of the great writer are mirror-written on cloth and sewn into the canvas in the upper left corner. This was the first painting that Kristin Llamas created in her signature “sewn canvas style.
Mirror-written in the work is a collection of quotes by Edgar Allen Poe:
The boundaries which divide life from death are at best shadowy and vague. Who shall say where one ends, and where the other begins? Sleep, those little slices of death; oh how I loathe them. And my soul from out that shadow lies floating on the floor, shall be lifted – – – Nevermore! It was night, and the rain fell; and falling it was rain, but, having fallen it was blood. I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity. Deep into that darkness peering long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before. They who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night. Years of love have been forgot, in the hatred of a minute. Take thy beak from out of my heart, and take thy form from off my door! Mournful and never-ending remembrance. To be thoroughly conversant with a man’s heart, is to take our final lesson in the iron-clasped volume of despair. ~E.A. Poe
