The Nomadic Collection

Get up, get out, and go somewhere.
– Alfonso Llamas

A collection of 50 original canvases was created during the artist’s travel to all fifty states.
In 2005, artist Kristin Abraham and her husband Alfonso Llamas quit their job, sold their home and all their belongings, and traveled to all fifty states to create what a vision they coined The Nomadic Project. During the sixty-two thousand miles traveled, Kristin created and displayed a painting in every state. Each of the fifty paintings represented her personal experiences along with historical connections land and people in each. While it is easy to match some of the paintings, such as a Wright Flyer for North Carolina, or the Old Man of the Mountain for New Hampshire, most pieces require more thought and discovery to realize which state they address and why. Select each painting to read from the artists journal entries about each state. The Nomadic Project collection is significant in the artist’s career as it led to her first solo museum exhibition. The artwork from this series has been acquired by museums and private collections across the country.
